President's Message
Dear Members and Friends,
As we step into April, I’m reminded of the energy and renewal that comes with a new season—and how fitting it is for our programming year theme: Rooted in Strength, Rising Together.
We were delighted to gather on a memorable St. Patrick’s Day for our March luncheon. Our featured speaker, our local county coroner, Jennifer Muraski, shared a powerful and heartfelt reflection on her personal and professional journey, all the while celebrating her birthday and her 97-year-old grandma’s birthday with our group! Her message about honoring where you come
from, embracing life’s toughest challenges, and finding strength along the way resonated deeply with all in attendance. It was a meaningful reminder that while each of our paths may look different, and there may be fear in the unknown or what life throws us, there is strength in sharing our stories and supporting one another.
Moments like these are what make our organization so special. Together, we continue to cultivate space where women can connect, grow, and rise—both individually and collectively.
Looking ahead, we are excited to invite you to our April Professional Development Breakfast Workshop. This upcoming session will feature keynote speaker, Sherrin Ross Ingram’s talk on Standing in our Power. The workshop will focus on practical strategies to support your continued growth and success, offering both valuable insights and the opportunity to connect with fellow members. We hope you will join us or consider a sponsorship for what promises to be an
engaging and empowering morning.

Earth Day Citywide Cleanup in Rockford on April 22
Join us for a neighborhood cleanup across the communities where we work, live, and play.
How it works: You choose your location and time, or we'll assign you one — whatever works best for you. If you have a preference, note it in the Notes field when you sign up.
Supplies are provided. Pick up yours at the United Way Rock River Valley Office (612 N Main St, 3rd Floor – Associated Bank Building) on:
- Monday, April 20 | 9am–5pm
- Tuesday, April 21 | 9am–5pm
Each volunteer receives: 2 yellow bags, a grabber, and a vest. Please bring your own gloves.
Supplies generously provided by Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful and Winnebago County.

Tad More Tailoring becomes Rockford’s first Certified B Corp
Tad More Tailoring has become the first business in Rockford to achieve Certified B Corporation status.
B Corp certification is awarded to companies that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. Certified B Corps are legally required to balance profit and purpose, ensuring their decisions positively impact workers, customers, communities and the planet.

The Power of Being Present
One thing I’ve learned over time is how powerful it is to simply be present. In a world where we’re all moving quickly, checking phones, and thinking about the next thing, giving someone your full attention stands out.
When you truly listen—without interrupting or thinking about your response—you build trust in a way that doesn’t require a lot of words. It tells the other person they matter.
This month, I’m challenging myself to slow down in conversations, make eye contact, and really listen. It’s a small shift, but it can make a big difference in both leadership and relationships. maybe you would like to take on this challenge as well.
